the third movie of the “Sumikkogurashi” will be released!

As our 10th anniversary wraps up, the Sumikkogurashi has offered a little early Christmas present! We are proud to announce the making of the movie Sumikkogurashi 3, planned to be released in theaters in 2023. We also received a celebratory illustration from the author Yuri Yokomizo!

 

The beloved character Sumikkogurashi has been admired by children and adults for its not only cute but slightly negative and strange storyline. Created in 2012 with the phrase “This is where I feel comfortable”, the Sumikkogurashi are now welcoming their 10th anniversary.

 

In 2019, we released the first animated movie, “Sumikkogurashi: Good to be in the corner”. We were successful with a record of 1.22 million viewers, thanks to the praise on social media commenting how the movie was family-friendly and made both kids and adults cry. Afterward, the film won the Best Animated Production of the Japan Movie Critics Award. It also became a hit overseas and was played in theaters in Hong Kong, Taiwan, Thailand, Brunei, Malaysia, Singapore, and Vietnam.  Then last year, we released the second movie, “Sumikkogurashi: The Little Wizard in the Blue Moonlight” . The movie’s universal story about “dreams” moved people’s hearts and was sympathized by many, and was viewed by about 1.03 million people. As such, we were able to make 2 hit movies in a row, both successful in obtaining 1 million viewers.

 

So to celebrate the end of our 10^th anniversary, we are honored to announce the release of the third movie of the Sumikkogurashi the Movie series. We have received a congratulatory illustration from the author Yuri Yokomizo.

 

In the illustration, the Sumikkogurashi look surprised and pleased to see the number “3” jumping out of the present box they opened. It is a heartwarming illustration, perfect for this time of the year close to Christmas.

 

The movie will be released in theaters  in 2023. Stay tuned for further updates!
